    Gday Gents,

Got a question i cant find answers on the net..

Im going to be fasting during the month of Ramadan (30 days) roughly 2nd October to 1st November. Its a religious thing..
anyhow will not be able to eat between the hours of 4:00am to 6:20pm roughly.. that means cannot consume anything (water, food, anything…)

Im still going to be training after I can break fast bout 7pm
want to know what i can include in my diet to minimise loss of muscle.

It will be hard as i cant eat too many carbs after breaking fast cuz i normally get in bed bout 9:30, ive heard its not good eating carbs and going to sleep withing 2 hours… so obvioulsy alot of protein before sleepin
Ive heard L-glutamine is good for people dieting and still wanting to retain muscle??

    any help will be appreciated.

I remember this question being asked on t-mag a while back so it may be worth searching under Ramadan there.

Obviously you’ve got to treat this as a dieting phase so I would think you’ve got to back off the volume big time. Your only goal (at the gym) should be to preserve muscle mass.

My feeling is that you would still want to lift heavy but back of volume and ditch any cardio.

Forget about idea’s like not eating carbs before bed as this is the only time you’ve got. Protein and carbs before WO and P + C after workouts. This is one case we’re I’d definitely think about preparing a shake to have in the middle of the night and try to wake at 3:45 to have a meal with slow release protein, like cottage cheese which would be my preference over something like casein and good fats eg, fish oil and flax oil.

In any case, measure your vital stats before Ramadan so you can compare afterwards. Let us know the result.

    Good luck. J.

Can someone help me mix a post workout shake
ive been using just Mushashi WPI lately..
wondering if this hydrolised stuff is any good, and if so is there a major difference betweeen the DH9 and DH17..

also im thinking of switching to the Bitotest Low Carb Grow Micellar shake as a MRP..
is there an equivalent which will work just as well as this from mypure… if so what?

    THanks

    Only you can decide.

However, theoretically the more small di- and tri- peptides the better in that case DH17 better than DH9 better than WPI. Now you need to decide if the practical benefits are worth the cost (investment?) and taste.

If you want to treat yourself to a yummy slow release protein go for Low Carb Grow. Otherwise a mix of whey and calcium caseinate would probably do the job although if you’re going a long time without food I’d go for something like 20% Whey and 80% calcium caseinate.

    HWPI 0.4g/kg bw
    Dextrose 0.4g/kg bw
    Maltodextrin 0.4g/kg bw

    For extra punch
    3g l-leucine
    3g dl-phenylalanine

In water. The more water the more palatable.

My training partner is Muslim. I used to give him a hard time because of it, but in all reality I give him the utmost respect.
We used to plan his cutting phase at this time.
His strength would start to drop in the second week, so we would cut cardio, plan the carb/protien timing better and in the last couple of years, his developement wasn’t affected too badly by the fasting.
