    I’m looking for literature regarding the relationship between reps, sets, weight lifted, and total weight lifted. Can anyone point me to some key papers?

    I found a paper about calculating a one rep max by Brzycki 1993. That paper is almost spot on, but it’s only applicable to single sets. I’m after research that relates the total weight lifted against total reps.

    E.g. Say I can bench 5 sets of 60 kg with 8 reps. If I bench 5 sets of 15 reps, what weight should I aim for?

    Mate good old trial & error would be more accurate than any calculation IMO.

    That’s what I do for myself, and I agree that a calculation will only be of limited use.

    However, if there’s research out there then I’ll take it 🙂

    Here’s a routine I use as a vague guide.

    With some theory at the end of the page. The math used is said to go haywire & become to distorted, when applied to greater than 10x reps, so, 10x reps is the maximum calculation in the tables. DA
