Carb loading does work well for endurance type events so 2 1/2 hours fits that.

What does your grading consist of, from what I remember it was performing your intendeded belts Kata and then some sparring with maybe a bit of training beforehand. If you are getting a good rest as everyone else does their Kata’s then you should be fine eating normally.

Drinking diluted powerade throughout the grading to keep hydrated and give you a little bit of sugar would be the most effective way of keeping going. Dehyrdation causes the most fatigue. So drink up before the event and keep it going during and just eat well.
