wheather a guy is a beginner or not, if he is not shown how to squat or deadlift what difference does it make how long he’s been training, he may as well learn the compound lifts as a beginner (light weight to start) rather than wasting effort on isolation exercises. being an expert on leg press aint gonna help squat form.
