And another 48 will die next week.

Scared? You shouldn’t be! Flu causes around 2500 deaths in Australia a year.

So I worry about headlines like this – Man with Swine Flu Dies in Hospital.

Turns out he had a whole lot of other medical issues that may have contributed to his death. It’s possible that swine flu had little to do with his death.

If an average of 48 people are killed by flu each week how many do you think die from all causes but have a flu virus at the time of death?

My point is beware of media beat ups regarding health and nutrition. Beware of official policy on the same. This point is being rammed home as I read Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health . Heavy going but scary stuff.

The Teenage Years

I couldn’t wait until the same show next year so I did the Sydney Titles, This time, I was a little bit more prepared. I trained really well and followed a strict diet of high protein and low carbs. That was the basic. I didn’t know much about supplements, fats or why I was doing what but the less carbohydrates I was eating the leaner I was getting so I figured it worked. I was a little too prepared and peaked too early and slowly faded until the day of the show. I came 2nd , a controversial second I feel.

Later that same year I competed again in the State Titles. After placing 2nd again to a different competitor than at the Sydney Titles I set my sights on winning not just the state show but the Australian Title next year.

I didn’t compete in the middle of the year and just focused on the National and State Titles. These were held on the same day as the state show in NSW was being judged. I again trained harder and had a little bit more knowledge and knew I had to come in to the show lean. I did this and won the title!

Extra! Extra!

At this time I was attending the Australian College of Physical Education at Homebush. After winning the Australian Title I was awarded a full Scholarship for the remainder of my time there which I was thankful for. After this win I set myself a goal of one day winning the Junior Australian title and then once I did that an open Australian title.

The Junior Division

I then took 2003 off competing and just trained and concentrated on college. I used that time to bulk up and bulk up I did. To call me uncomfortable during this time would be an understatement. I reached 112kg at 5”6 and I am glad I tried this and I did get results but I won’t go to those measures again to put on mass. It was good to quote how much I weighed but the mirror didn’t like it and I felt like a powder puff lolly.

Gettin' Bigger

I competed in 2004 and came 3rd in the NSW ANB State Titles and Nationals. Happy with my improvements I had made but knowing I couldn’t have beaten the 2 guys that placed ahead of me, I trained for another 2 weeks and flew up to Queensland for the National Titles. Although I placed out of the top 3—I think I came 4th—I beat the 2 guys that had beaten me at the state titles so I got my revenge for the show 2 weeks earlier which tasted good.

I went back to the drawing board and trained for the competitions in 2005. Knowing this was my last year as a Junior I wanted to make the most of it and I needed to win to keep my goal alive of winning the Teenage, Junior and then an open Australian title one day.

Because I knew I had to get into condition and size has never been an issue, I started my contest prep 20 weeks out. Now I wouldn’t call this dieting at 20 weeks out but I cleaned up my diet, I was still eating a lot but it was all clean and the idea and the goal was to drop body fat so slowly that no muscle mass was lost. I started on a weights program that was very intense and continually changed that involved high reps, low reps, super sets and drop sets as well as giant sets. Never doing the same workout twice in a row. As the show came closer and closer I was practicing my posing more and more and basically put my life on hold for the last 12 weeks before the show to concentrate on the Australian Titles.

The first show in 2005 I competed in was the ANB Central Coast Titles. After depleting for about 5 days before hand, which means very little carbohydrates and high protein to suck out glycogen from the muscle cells and get rid of that last little bit of fat I tried to fill up as much as possible. For 2 and a half days every 3 hours I had one cup of rice accompanied by my normal fish meals throughout the day. I was very very full and I feel I look my best when I am full and big. I won the Junior Title in that show and was ready for the NSW Titles.

Pumped

But I changed what I did at the previous week as the judges has said I wasn’t lean enough again. Before the show and something went wrong with my colour and I placed second in the NSW titles.. A week later I competed in the national ANB Titles and I am not one to complain and I take my placings wherever I am put, but after having a disagreement with the owner of the company of the major sponser of the NSW Team and the show its self when I stepped onstage I knew something was going on. Out of the 7 judges 4 or 5 worked for his personal training company and I was not compared to anyone the entire prejudging but ended up placing 4th just out of the top three without being compared to 3rd or 5th or 1st or last. I knew was in the best shape of my life but it didn’t matter.

Sweet

Instead of getting upset a week later I competed in the IFBB Australian titles. This being an untested event I didn’t know what to expect but I had the time of my life. I won the Junior class, keeping my goal alive and made the year of training and dieting well worth while.

After taking 3 years off competing and prioritising other areas of my life I have now decided to jump back in the saddle and re ignite the fire. I have got some shows in mind for next year and I have an image in my head of how exactly I want to look. I believe if I can bring my body to match that image I will be unstoppable. To help me get there I contacted John and Jenny at Myopure for some assistance in products that might get me back onto the competitive stage. They agreed, and I am looking forward to getting back that competitive edge that will help me reach my full potential.

I hope this has given you a good run down of myself for now. Please drop by the boards and say hi or ask a question about how to reach your goals and I will be more than happy to help.

My name is Jimmy Sadek and I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been weight training since I was 16 years old. I’m 25 years old now, so that’s 9 years of training and have been competing for 5 of those 9 years. My first competition was when I was 18 and the last time I competed was when I was 22.

I won the ANB Teenage Mr. Australia in 2002 and also the IFBB Junior Mr. Australia in 2005. Below I will tell you a little bit about how I got into weight training, my first competition, the Australian Titles that I won and what I want to achieve next year.

Before I do any of that I would like to thank Myopure for bringing me on board and making me apart of the team and for providing the high quality products to get me started on this new phase of training.

WHERE DID I START?

I first started lifting weights when I worked in a local gym when I was 15. When I say lifting I did the occasional workout once a month! I cleaned the squash courts and tidied up the weights area during peak times Monday to Wednesday. I trained every now and again but I didn’t know what I was doing and it wasn’t very consistent. Back then I was also a competitive swimmer.

My first gym membership came at the start of year 11. I had just turned 16 and my family had moved house about a 30 minute drive away from where I grew up, where all my friends were. I chose to give up swimming because I knew I was too short and those who I had beaten all of my life started growing taller and improving and I was almost at a stand still. Because I had a whole 6 week holiday over Christmas when I knew I wouldn’t be able to see many of my old friends because they lived too far away, I joined the local gym. A 30 minute drive was hours on the old push bike!

So, I joined the gym and started training 5 days a week, reading everything online that I could get my hands on and trying different things. I was weak! But I was a swimmer so I did have something to build on. That year Darling Harbor held its first Fitness Exhibition in in March. I went with a couple of my new training buddies down to have a look. They had guest posing and some pro bodybuilders standing around. I introduced myself to an amateur bodybuilder who had just finished guest posing and we chatted for a while. He asked me how old I was and when I told him I was 16 he said I was big for my age. He then introduced me to a man named Rob Powell. He is the guy who runs things in the ANB. Rob said I should compete in the state show coming up in September. I said ok and after a brief chat I went on my merry way.

Hair to stay?

I then went home and started looking up diets and training articles and I realized I didn’t know anything! So I stopped eating junk food (well, I cut down) and I started eating more chicken and started using the protein I had bought at the expo. September rolled around and I decided to cut my hair into an undercut, bleach the top and slick it back for the show. The reason I did this is because Lee Priest was my favorite bodybuilder at the time and I saw a magazine cover with his hair like that. His hair looked way better than mine did though!

High Priest of Hair.

I turned up at the show and I had no idea. I registered and signed in. Then I went back stage and saw Duncan (the bodybuilder I spoke to at the expo) he was excited that I had showed up. First thing he said, was “Ok. How is your tan?”

I showed him and he said, “ Ok, you’re white!”

I thought I was black but looking around I did not have enough colour having only put one coat of tan on so Duncan put a coat of Dream Tan on me and I was ready to pump up.

The rest is a blur but that day was a definite highlight of my life so far. I had no expectations, no pressure. I just enjoyed the day and would recommend everyone to compete at least once just for the experience. After that I had the bug: I wanted to compete again.

Stay tuned for Part 2!

Meet Jimmy Sadek, 2002 ANB Teenage Mr Australia and 2005 ANB Mr Junior Australia. After a short break, Jimmy’s on the comeback trail and Myopure is right behind him. 2009 is shaping up to be a big year for Mr Sadek—starting with the Sydney Championships in May 09.

That gives him a little over six months to get in competition shape. Even after his hiatus, Jimmy still looks—well, pretty good—and we at Myopure like to think we had something to do with that. So when he approached us with a request for sponsorship, we took a quick look at his credentials, and just couldn’t refuse.

“The three guys who make up this Crew are not simply comic book Figures or alter egos, but cultural revolutionaries,” warns the website blurb. “Just don’t expect to catch Mask without his make-up.”
If TapouT has a mission aside from world domination it is the blur the boundaries between real life and comic book life. TapouT’s founder, Charles “The Mask” Lewis, is a serious comic book fan. His business savvy offsider is Dan PunkAss Caldwell and then there is a wiggy giant known only as SkyScrape.
Between them they have created the TapouT brand and brought Mixed Martial Arts—illegal until 2001—out of the garage and into millions of lounge rooms via their own reality TV show called Tapout: Bad For the Sport. In its second season on Versus TV, TapouT serves not only to push the brand but also as a search vehicle for the next MMA star. The first season drew more than 40 million viewers, according to an interview on Sports illustrated

So, what is TapouT?

“The TapouT phenomenon cannot be explained easily. TapouT is here to help bring the sport to its rightful place of world domination, and our products are just an extension of that,” says Mask. He’s the one in, ahem, Mask makeup.

You gotta love it. As many know, the term tapout is from wrestling that roughly translates as GET THIS LUG THE #@$% OFFA ME! The defeated fighter taps on the floor—or not in the case of the unconscious contestant Montoya—to indicate to the ref that he is on the brink of death. Tapout is Game Over.

<ins>
View This Video on You Tube

</ins>

Way back in 1999, MMA nerds Charles Lewis and Dan Caldwell were training in their California garages. They came up with an idea of a clothing line designed for the underground sport with a strong comic-book bias. Lewis came up with the name and the logo—an homage to his hero, Batman, and Caldwell brought biz savvy to the table. And how. We’re talking the usual balls-to-the-wall $30,000 turnoverin 1999 to $22.5 million in 2007 (double the 2006 numbers). But all pales beside a projected 100 million in 2008.

None of it came easy. Lewis gave up his job to concentrate on this world domination thing and next thing you know had lost consequently lost his beloved 1995 Mustang (since replaced by a tricked-out tour bus), his Ninja Motorcycle and his home. Skyscrape put his buddies up on his couch and they schlepped the printed T-shirt around to shows and fights in his brother’s car. Why did they do it?
“There was no uniform that represented what we felt on the inside, ” says Mask. “There was no brand that meant mixed martial arts.”

It should come as no surprise that next to Batman, Mask’s comic book hero is Underdog. As is “Never Fear—Underdog is here!”

So up until TapouT has been no brand that meant mixing sport and street, business and pleasure, sweat and blood, music and madness, Batman and Underdog. Well now there is. The boys can only hope that it’s as bad for the sport as it’s been for their bank accounts
